Sesame is an oily plant that contains 50-60% fat and 25% protein and is rich in calcium, phosphorus and vitamin E. The total world production is 3.4 million tons, of which India produces 25%, China produces 23%, Sudan produces 12%, Nigeria produces 4%, and other countries such as Chad, Somalia, Turkey, Mexico and others.
Sesame is used in the manufacture of tahini, halva, and bakery products such as dry pastries and simit bread, in addition to its use in cosmetics and soap making, and it is also used as animal feed.
